Papers of J. Harry Michael, 1892-1994, (bulk 1941-1994).

Papers of Federal Judge J. Harry Michael, Jr., include his personal correspondence, 1941-1945, from World War II, particularly letters written by him from the Naval Training School at Harvard, and letters to him from friends and family, including two from Dean Ivey Lewis on the University of Virginia during the war. The collection also contains a personal data questionnaire and accompanying drafts and research submitted by Michael as a candidate for the U.S. District Judge for the Western District of Virginia; letters of congratulations on his appointment; and material from a seminar for newly appointed district judges sponsored by the Federal Judicial Center, including copies of lectures. The collection also contains desk calendars of appointments, conferences and court dates; pocket calendars; and invitations.
